Shalane Wins New York!

Monday, November 06, 2017

Hi everyone! I just wanted to send out a quick post about yesterday's New York City Marathon. It was a great day for US Women's running. It was the first time a US woman has won since 1977! If you didn't get to see the last few miles of the race I highly recommend that you watch it. Shalane ran an amazing race and the end was so emotional as she achieved her dream and also put a great mark up on the board for US women runners. It was just beautiful!! She finished in 2:26:53!!

Running his last race, as I have heard he is retiring, was Meb Keflezighi. Meb is 42 years old and finished the race in 2:15:29. I saw his finish and he collapsed at the end and had to be assisted up. He must have needed some fuel because he did do his victory lap later. I just love Meb. I have watched him for years and he seems so nice and friendly. Every interview you ever see is just him being humble and sweet. He placed 11th which was very good running against all the younger runners!!

Three years ago yesterday I ran the NYC marathon. It was my first marathon in 15 years and I had just come out of a boot after tearing my plantar fascia so it was not my best time but I had a great time!! The weather was very chilly and super windy that day. I made a new friend at the start line that I huddled with under other peoples' clothes that had been thrown down. We had to huddle together to stay warm!! I texted her the picture we took of ourselves yesterday just for fun and she told me she was running yesterday again!!! She took about 30 minutes off her time which was great. Anyway, if you ever get the chance to run this marathon, you should do it. I would recommend not drinking coffee at the start line for 4 hours prior to the race because the porta potty lines in the race are very long!!! I lost 20 something minutes with my stops!! I had a female mishap occur during the race and had to call my husband and ask him to go get some feminine hygiene products for me!! He got them and called me and said he was at mile 16 with 2 tampons!!! He held them out as I ran past. He wanted me to stop for a selfie so I quickly did and ran off so quick that my ponytail was the only thing in the picture with him!! Anyway, it was a bit of a mess for me literally, but I finished and I had a great time!!

Me at mile 25 of the race.

Here is a picture of me and Dee (my new friend) before the race and the one below is somewhere along the course.

I hope your week is off to a good start!!! Have a great week!

Kristi
