10 Things Running, Edition 1

Updated: Feb 5, 2019

I wanted to start something that I post on a regular basis where I list 10 things I am liking about running right now.

This first edition is going to be Motivational Quotes for Runners. These could apply for all runners but I really think you need some extra motivation when you are going for the marathon distance or longer.

My husband and I are running the Rome marathon in less than a month as many of you know and we are not prepared physically so we are going to need a lot of mental preparation and positive thoughts to get to the finish.

Thank goodness we will be in Rome and can look forward to some ridiculously good food!

The marathon is a beast and if you underestimate it you will pay the price. Here are some I found from www.runtothefinish.com.

If you count the word "picture" below then there are 11 but I am not counting that one!

  1. “You have to forget your last marathon before you try another. Your mind can’t know what’s coming” –Frank Shorter

  2. “In running, it doesn’t matter whether you come in first, in the middle of the pack, or last. You can say, ‘I have finished.’ There is a lot of satisfaction in that.” – Fred Lebow – New York City Marathon co-founder

  3. "Tough runs don't last. Tough runners do." -Saucony, #findyourstrong

  4. "Ask yourself: ‘Can I give more?’. The answer is usually: ‘Yes’.” – Paul Tergat – Kenyan professional marathoner

  5. "I always say if the marathon is a part-time interest, you will only get part-time results.” Bill Rodgers

  6. "Once you make the decision that you will not fail the heart and body will follow."-Kara Goucher

  7. “All you need is the courage to believe in yourself and put one foot in front of the other.” Kathrine Switzer

  8. "It doesn't matter how you do it, just get out there and get it done."-Dean Karnazes

  9. “When you run the marathon, you run against the distance, not against the other runners and not against the time.” Haile Gebrselassie

  10. "Winning has nothing to do with racing. Most days don’t have races anyway. Winning is about struggle and effort and optimism, and never, ever, ever giving up.” – Amby Burfoot

These quotes came from:

I picked out the ones I liked the best.

I hope they help on days that you need a little extra motivation!!

Well that wraps it up for the first edition of 10 Things Running!

Happy Running!

Kristi
