Happy Friday!

Hi everyone! I hope you have had a great week. It has been a nice one around here. I can feel summer winding down though and I gotta say, I don't like it. I am not ready for summer to be over. I just have a few things to write about today so this will be quick.

First off, I want to wish good luck to my friend Barbara and her husband Bud. They headed for Santa Rosa today to run the marathon this Sunday. They are both hoping to qualify for Boston at this race. Barbara has been dealing with a few injuries lately so she has had to miss a few runs but I have faith she will do really well at the race. Bud is a fierce competitor so I know he will run well also. So, let's send good running vibes to them this Sunday!! Go Bud and Barbara!!

Kristie and I have a 9.3 mile race this Sunday. We are more than halfway through with our 50 races and we are heading into some difficult back to back races from now on. I have missed some long runs lately so we will see how Sunday goes. I am a bit nervous about the one in September coming up where we have to run a half and then a 5k the next day.

I have been focusing on strength training since my trip to New York. I have been committed to making sure I get all of my strength workouts done. I am very proud to say I have not missed a single one. This was my fourth week and I am noticing some differences already. I had to do yard work consisting of picking up logs and dragging huge pieces of a fallen tree (thanks again hail!). Usually I would be feeling very wimpy with this and would have been sore that night or the next day but neither of those things happened and I am sure it is from my workouts.

I also stopped getting on the scale after I came back from Barcelona. I decided it was just too negative of an experience so I just stopped doing it. I decided to focus on making sure I didn't miss my work outs and that I kept eating healthy, maybe not all the time but most of the time. I thought I would just see how I feel and how my clothes fit.

Well, I already pointed out that I felt stronger with my yard work. I also noticed that some of my clothes that were previously too tight are now fitting again. So, I think things are working. I am planning to continue with this plan as well as my running. I always get in an easy short run, an interval run and a long run every week. Sometimes I add in 1 or 2 other easy short runs depending on what is going on that week. I was doing some swimming but I haven't made it to the pool in a few weeks.

For my strengthening I am doing legs 2 days a week, arms 2 days a week, core included with those workouts, a workout with more full body exercises and my runs. Just to mix it up a little and keep me from getting bored I have tried to add in a few other options. For example, I did Hump Day Hundreds. (I just made that up this week. If it is already a thing then I am sorry for claiming that I made it up.) I picked 5 exercises: squats, crunches, bridges, side plank and push ups and I did 100 reps of each of them. I already had tired arms and legs so it felt incredibly hard.

I have also thrown in a few full body workouts if I don't do a run that day. I have just been using YouTube to find some workouts. I especially have liked GymRa. They have all kinds of workouts to choose from and there are a ton of free ones.

Well, that's it for today. I am considering opening up my personal training/coaching services through my website soon. These would be very customized towards each individual. If you have any thoughts on what you would like to see offered let me know.

I wanted to post some pictures with this post but for some reason they do not want to upload so I guess no photos today. Ok, so after I posted it I went to the website and then added the photos and of course it worked!!!

Have a great weekend!

Happy Running!

Kristi
